From Concept to Classroom: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at MyEducator’s Resource Development Process
MyEducator boasts a meticulous publication process for our educational materials. We are proud of our collaboration with authors and educators and of our attention to detail in the development process. For those interested in our process, and perhaps even publishing with us, we hope the following peek into our publication process will help answer questions you may have and spark some interest!
Step 1: Connecting with SMEs, Educators, and Institutions
MyEducator works closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), educators, and program instructional designers to develop high-quality, engaging content that meets the needs of learners and teachers alike. MyEducator connects with these parties in a few different ways.
Educators and Authors
Educators may wish to publish exclusive material they already use in their classrooms. MyEducator’s customizable multimedia resources are attractive and engaging additions to the knowledge instructors have already incorporated into their classrooms. Additionally, the online platform makes MyEducator essential to web-based learning. MyEducator can then make these published resources available in our catalog for future adoptions by other educators and institutions.
Institutions
Universities and other educational institutions reach out with requests to create a new addition to their curriculum. If MyEducator doesn’t already have a resource to customize, MyEducator’s content team will work closely with clients to find an appropriate SME to develop custom lesson material and assessment content that aligns with the course-specific learning outcomes of the proposed resource. Similarly, corporations may contact us about training material they would like to publish to make available to their employees, and a similar process is followed.
Case-by-Case Adoptions
Our robust catalog draws in many parties interested in adopting existing resources into their curriculum. Together, we adapt these adopted resources to fit new learning objectives and the needs of each classroom.
Our sales team is unmatched in their enthusiasm to answer questions, provide virtual demos, and consult with potential authors and clients on creating a custom, perfect-fit course for your classroom’s needs. Reach out to our sales team through our website, by email at sales@myeducator.com or at one of the many conferences MyEducator attends!
Step 2: Planning Resource Needs
This is the main planning stage in which we carefully assess the needs of the classroom, students, and instructors. Together, we consider curriculum requirements, solidify the scope of the text, and determine learning objectives.
We consider the structure of the course as well and develop an outline tailored to fit the level and duration of the intended course. At this stage, we may consider how best to break up the content, how many assessments and what kind of assessments are needed, and what kind of multimedia should be included in the resource.
Once we have learning objectives in place and content outlined, we work with the client to determine a project schedule and a workflow process.
Step 3: Developing Customized Content
With planning complete, we now get to dive right in with you to start creating the content for your resource.
SMEs or authors get to work, creating lesson material for the resource. Though most of the content is written lessons, clients should consider the many additional perks of the MyEducator platform during the creation process.
Features to Consider During the Creation Process
Videos and Visuals
Authors love our platform because of its opportunities for multimedia teaching. During this stage of the publishing process, we encourage authors to create videos and plan visuals that will assist their students in learning the material. Alternatively, MyEducator also provides in-house multimedia content creation.
Technology Integration
Some classrooms use a third-party learning management system. MyEducator has developed its platform with this use in mind, and we can adapt our resources to integrate with these LMSs. This integration includes direct reading links, assessment integration, and materials integration.
Many of our resources teach specific program skills, and MyEducator’s development team has worked hard to provide integration with these programs so you can give your students an in-program experience that comes with instant grading and feedback. For example, classrooms have seen a lot of success in efficiency and practical learning with our robust Excel grading engine.
Analytics
Instructors love the analytics feature on MyEducator’s platform. This feature allows them to measure student engagement and performance on both the individual and classroom levels.
Accessibility and Usability
MyEducator is committed to offering educational resources that adhere to the WCAG 2 accessibility and usability standards. We consider these standards thoughtfully throughout the publication process.
MyEducator’s development team is tireless in their efforts to improve and innovate our platform. New features are regularly on the horizon to match the demands of today’s evolving education industry, such as the MyEducator AI Virtual Teacher Assistant.
See our Product Features page for more info on current and upcoming features.
Materials to Include
In addition to lesson material, SMEs and authors also prepare assessments and any other materials that will be available within the resource. Some of these materials include the following:
- Pre-examinations, midterm examinations, and final examinations
- Lesson or chapter reading quizzes
- Projects and homework assignments
- Instructor and TA materials
- Sample syllabi
- Other student materials, such as slide decks, database files, PDFs, spreadsheets, and other topic-specific items like Tableau Workbooks
Step 3: The Review Process
MyEducator assigns each resource text to a member of our content team, and it undergoes a comprehensive review process. In many cases, this step of the process occurs in tandem with the creation of the text to help streamline the process.
The content team member, or editor, will work closely with the author or institution to polish the text. The editor will verify that the resource content aligns with the learning objectives and other needs established during the planning phase. They will provide any necessary feedback to improve the organization, accessibility, or usability of the text, and they will correct any inconsistencies or grammatical errors. They will also provide sensitivity checks and verify that the text fits the standards of accessible English grammar and style.
Step 4: Publishing Content
Once all parties are satisfied with the content, the content team member begins to publish. This is an exciting step for everyone involved as they see their hard work laid out in a beautiful format on MyEducator’s online platform.
Coding
All the components we considered and created in Step 3 come to life during this step. We carefully code lesson material, craft and link assessments, embed and test multimedia content, establish technology integrations, place instructor and student materials, and check and double-check everything for accessibility and usability standards.
Publication
After a final pass from the author or institution and MyEducator team members, we give the resource an ISBN (if applicable) and make access codes available for purchase through institution bookstores, streamlining the purchasing process for students.
Adoption
We also make a limited demo resource available in our product catalog for other educators, students, and institutions to browse.
Once a resource is adopted into a course or institution program, MyEducator will work with the adopting party to provide updates and customization consistent with the new course’s needs.
Continued Support and Updates
As always, our support team is on hand 24/7 to answer questions about the resource and provide help to both instructors and students. See “Getting Support for Your MyEducator Resource” to discover more about how our stellar support team can assist you or your students.
Authors or institutions may also want to make updates to content after publication. The MyEducator platform allows for consistent updates that can be pushed to all adopted courses—without instructors and students needing to purchase a new resource. We provide the latest updated versions to instructors and students automatically at no extra cost.
