Beth Davis-Sramek: The Spirit of Sustainability
Since MyEducator’s inception, our goal has been to provide high-quality learning materials for both instructors and students. Key to reaching that goal are the authors who work with MyEducator, providing their expertise and insight developed over years within their fields. Among those authors is Beth Davis-Sramek, a professor at Auburn University and one of the coauthors of the Sustainability and Risk Across the Supply Chain resource within the Supply Chain catalog.
To say that Doctor Davis-Sramek is well versed and well qualified in the field of sustainability within the supply chain is an understatement.
Industry and Research Qualifications
Dr. Davis-Sramek has spent time both within the industry of supply chain management and within the supply chain scholarship. During her time in the industry, she not only worked in the field, advancing new product development, service operations, and sales, but she has also consulted for a number of companies—including BBB Industries and Buddy Moore Trucking—to help apply and manage substantive change in their sustainability business practices.
If her work in the field wasn’t enough to qualify her as an expert, she has also researched and published extensively. Her research has been published in several journals, including the Journal of Business Logistics, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, and International Journal of Logistics Management.
Not only has Dr. Davis-Sramek published extensively, but she has also acted as associate editor for the Journal of Supply Chain Management, editorial board member of the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, and coeditor in chief for the Journal of Business Logistics—one of the field’s premier journals.
Participation Within Scholarship and Education
But Dr. Davis-Sramek has not stopped there. She has also focused on sharing her enthusiasm for sustainability with the next generation. In her role at Auburn University, Dr. Davis-Sramek created and launched a special topics elective class called Sustainable Supply Chain, in which she used in-depth consulting projects to provide students with opportunities to gain practical knowledge that they can carry with them as they transition from scholarship to real-world industry. This class was so successful that it became a permanent, and much-loved, elective.
To top it off, Dr. Davis-Sramek practices what she teaches. In 2023, Dr. Davis-Sramek was a recognized recipient of the Auburn University Spirit of Sustainability Award. This award recognizes individuals or groups among Auburn University students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have made significant contributions toward sustainability within either the campus or community.
The Motivations Behind It All
The work Dr. Davis-Sramek does within the corporate industry, research field, and scholarship has become more culturally relevant as social awareness of sustainability has grown. Her contribution to the Sustainability and Risk Across the Supply Chain resource is yet another way that Dr. Davis-Sramek is sharing her enthusiasm for sustainable practices with the goal of preparing students to enter the workforce with the knowledge and skills they need to become indispensable. The goal for this resource, one MyEducator shares, is to help students hit the ground running as they enter the workforce, ready to help their companies not only succeed but also do their part in taking care of the world we’re all living in.
