Eric Schulz has been working in branding and marketing for over 40 years. By now, he knows what he’s talking about. Eric has an MBA from the BYU Marriott School of Business and has taught at Brigham Young University and the University of Utah. He is currently part of the marketing faculty at the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University.
A Career Amongst Giants
Eric Schulz spent his career working in marketing at the highest levels within Proctor & Gamble, the Walt Disney Company, and the Coca-Cola Company. He has worked in consumer product marketing, home video, sports and entertainment, the NBA, and minor league baseball. He was the Director of Global Olympic Marketing for Coca-Cola and the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, the hometown of the beverage giant. Those games were so successful for the Company that the games came to be called the “Coke Olympics.”
“Marketing is a wonderful profession when done right. We help our customers to have better lives. We help them to find more happiness. We help them solve their problems,” says Schulz. He also believes that “the task of marketing is simple—to understand how our products/services will fit into the life of our target customers in a way that will make their life better—and telling them that.” Eric Schulz shares this wisdom with students and consulting clients alike. Whether he teaches for a semester or a day, his students benefit from his experience.
A Better Way to Learn
Of his book Brand Management: Strategy, Positioning, and Marketing in the Digital Age, Schulz says, “If someone wants to have a successful career in marketing, this is the only book they will ever need to read. I wanted to write a book that can help students just learning marketing, as well as professionals seeking to upgrade their skills.” Schulz continued, “I think the part that is most impactful is Brand Positioning—learning how to articulate how your product or service will make your customer’s life better. If we can do that, the marketing cannot fail.”
Schulz integrates stories and examples into his books to help students focus on the application of brand and marketing strategies so students “walk away understanding the how and why we do what we do.”
Schulz is happy to help other educators find success using his book and is available for questions and is even willing to share his recorded lectures, assignments, and course plan with any educator who decides to use his book.
